I usually create a body first and a sketch second. In this demonstration I introduce 3 ways to extrude a face. You used to need to create a 'REGION' out of a profile to extrude it (I dont know if its still the case, havent used its 3D features in ages). If you take a look in the feature tree, the sketches are there for themselves, not inside the tree structure of a body. Revolution operation results are as follows. One of the things I love about FreeCAD is that there are many ways to solve a problem. Edge of exisiting shape (select by click on 3D view).Construction line in the sketch (select by click on 3D view).Rotation axis can be selected from followings. Enter angle of rotation on the dialog and click OK. Select the created sketch model tree and execute Revolution to execute rotation extruding. So u can try two things: Move sketch to intersect with the part and then extrude it. But as freecad has some bugs, that might no happen. In this operation, we use Horizonal constraint, Vertical constraint, Vertical Distance constraint, Horizontal Distance constraint, Equal Length constraint and other constraints. If you are extruding the sketch below, then logically, the part should reappear once the extrusion reaches limit to intersect with the part. The tool operates with a 2D closed shape. To use the Part Design Revolve you will need something to revolve. This is accomplished by extruding around an axis. Select each segment of line and apply constraints as shown in following figure. The revolve tool in the Part Design Workbench creates a solid from a sketch or draft wire. Applies Coincident constraint to the end points Select two end points and select Coincident constraint in toolbar to connnect the lines. Select Polyline in toolbar and draw a "H" shape on the sketch plane as shown in the following figure. You can also mount a new sketch to a planar face of a solid and then use external geometry, and then Pad that new sketch. You can use a Draft Workbench 'face binder' and extrude that. You can select a face of a solid created from a sketch. Select New Sketch in toolbar and select XY plane as sketch plane on the dialog. There are no faces in a sketch, just edges/wires. Create new document and switch workbench to Part Design workbench.
