Microsoft explains that some functionality and features may not become available, and that users may "encounter other unexpected performance or reliability issues while using Microsoft 365 services". Connections may continue to work, but there is no guarantee for that. The same applies to Office 20 on October 10, 2023. Microsoft notes on this support page that older Office versions "might still be able to connect to Microsoft 365 services, but that connectivity isn't supported". Note that end of support does not necessarily mean that these versions can't connect to Microsoft 365 anymore. The company made an exception for Office 2016, which is already out of mainstream support. Office 2019 runs out of mainstream support in October 2023. Microsoft explains on a support website that only mainstream support versions of Office are supported for connecting to Microsoft 365 services. Microsoft will end support for connecting to Microsoft 365 services for the two Microsoft Office versions Office 2016 and Office 2019. Office 20: Microsoft 365 service supports ends in October 2023 Customers won't receive technical support either anymore for the product. While it won't stop working after that date, it won't receive any more security updates going forward. The Office version will be retired on Apby Microsoft. It receives monthly security updates in that phase, but no feature updates anymore. Microsoft Office 2013 is in its Extended Support phase currently. image credit: Lee Holmes Office 2013 support ends in April 2023 If you need more details about the new features in Office 2021 and Microsoft 365, check out Microsoft’s announcement and this support document.Main changes affect the desktop versions Office 2013, which runs out of support in April 2023, and Office 2016/2019, which will run out of Microsoft 365 connectivity support. The latter allows up to six people to use the same suite of apps. The plans start at $6.99 per month for 365 Personal and $9.99 per month for 365 Family. Microsoft 365 accounts come with 1TB of cloud storage.Ĭomparatively, the Microsoft 365 prices remain unchanged. You only get 5GB of data, but you can always buy more. OneDrive storage isn’t as generous for Office 2021 as the Microsoft 365 offer. Also, that’s why Microsoft is throwing Teams in the mix, with support for chat, calls, and video. That might come in handy to many people, especially if they’re still working or studying from home during the pandemic. Like Microsoft 365, Office 2021 apps will support collaboration between users, including real-time co-authoring of documents. But for that price, you get Outlook and the rights to use Office apps for business purposes alongside all the features in the regular Office Home and Student releases.Īside from revealing Office 2021 pricing information, Microsoft also went through the main features of the Office 2021 updates in its announcement. That’s significantly more expensive, at $249.99. Small businesses who want access to Microsoft’s productivity apps without the subscription route, can purchase the Office Home and Business 2021 version. They include access to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, and Microsoft Teams. Office Home and Student 2021 will cost $149.99 each. Microsoft revealed the prices for the various Office 2021 options that will be available to consumers next week. Like the Microsoft 365 equivalent, Office 2021 will sport the same new Office design aligned to the new Windows 11 design experience. That means you’ll have to upgrade to Office 2021 if you plan on upgrading to the latest Windows OS version. Office 2013 will not work on Windows 11, however. As for macOS, the software suite will support the last three major macOS releases. Microsoft explained that Office 2021 will be available on Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices. The software suite is compatible with macOS as well, so you’ll be able to secure your copy next week regardless of the platform. But Office 2021 won’t be exclusive to Windows. That’s the same day when Microsoft will release the final Windows 11 build after several months of beta testing.
